Eaglemoss elects Lex Luthor as its king
Why settle for president?

The votes are in: Lex has been crowned King! ...you know, because I assume Eaglemoss had a secret ballot among their staff members when Lex Luthor was selected to represent the black king in their DC Justice League Chess Collection. That or Lex tricked his nephew into exile following the murder of the boy's royal father.
Lex Luthor (black king), Supergirl (white pawn), and Deathstroke (black pawn) are the most recent additions to Eaglemoss's DC Justice League Chess Collection and are currently available for pre-order. They join the previously announced Green Lantern and Wonder Woman, as well, apparently, Superman (white king) and the Question (white pawn) who somehow flew under the radar.
When Eaglemoss announced their Justice League set, I had naturally wondered as to the direction they'd go with the villains. I have to confess mild disappointment at seeing Lex lead the brigade given how many larger, more intimidating villains are out there (Darkseid, for starters). I was also hoping we'd see a Legion of Doom theme for black if Lex was made king but, sadly, the inclusion of Deathstroke makes that unlikely.
Complaints aside, I love Lex Luthor's skull-adorned base/pedestal. I'm less fond of the weird sideways pose given to the character (they did something similar with a black king Joker). Plus either an arm's folded or a power pose (like the cover art there) would make for a far more dynamic figurine than merely holding out a hunk of kryptonite. And, is it just me, or does that face remind anybody of Gene Hackman?
I believe Supergirl and Deathstroke are in their New 52 costumes. Supergirl sports a decent enough pose but I'm just not a fan of that outfit (mostly due to the weird boots that go around her knees). Likewise, my dislike for the Deathstroke revamp keeps me from really getting into what looks to be a neat figurine.
At this point, I'm most excited for Superman (see gallery) who looks absolutely fantastic. He's rocking a power pose with one foot atop the Daily Planet's logo. If I only buy one chess piece from this set, it's guaranteed to be that Superman. I'm also liking the look of the Question. Renee Montoya (who replaced Vic Sage as the Question following his death; you may remember Montoya from Batman: The Animated Series) really rocks that outfit well and I like the look of the figurine.
Deathstroke is slated for a June release while the other two are due out in July. The Question and Superman are listed as having a May release.
